Help

1. On your computer, open /teacher and tap Start my classroom here.
2. Setup: add each class with first names, one per line. Add a saved schedule and your weekly plan.
3. Devices → Add a teacher phone: scan with your phone. On the phone, Devices → Turn on alerts, then send a test.
4. Open /board on the smartboard and /tablet on the tablet, and pair each one (Devices → Pair a board or tablet).
5. Board tab: arrange the two layouts, add learning targets, and tap 👀 Preview the board to check it.

Your day is a list of blocks: periods, advisory, prep, lunch, or elementary blocks like "Morning work" and "Math centers". Each block runs from its start time until the next one starts. At each start time, the board, tablet and your phone switch together.

Templates

Every block starts from one: 📚 Class period, 🌱 Advisory, ☕ Resting (prep or lunch: the board says "Back at 11:15" and the tablet closes passes) or 📝 Test day (every pass needs your OK). Each template has its own board layout, which you arrange in the Board tab.

What each block owns

Its roster (which class checks in), pass rules (open, needs your OK, or closed; optionally one student out at a time), its check-in window, a students' to-do list for the board, and 🔒 private notes only you see. Edit them in Setup → Blocks, for today only or in a saved schedule.

Check-in window

Check-in opens during the passing period (5 minutes before the bell by default) and stays open for a few minutes after it. Then the tablet flips to hall passes. Late check-ins still work but are marked tardy with the time. Attendance is kept separately for each block.

When students are missing

When the window closes and someone hasn't checked in, your phone or watch buzzes: "Period 2 · 3 haven't checked in: names" with Mark absent and Remind board. Remind board shows a friendly note with their names on the board and keeps check-in open a few more minutes. Nobody is ever marked absent without your OK.

Taking over

Running early or late? On the Today tab, tap any block in the strip to start it now. Everything follows that block until you tap Back to the clock.

To-do lists

Each block's list shows on the board. It's display-only unless you turn on Students can check items off (great for younger grades). Save lists you reuse in Board → Saved to-do lists and copy them into any block.

Class rules

Set once in the Board tab; they show in the Class rules box on every class block's board.

Elementary or secondary

Setup → How your day works. Elementary: the same class all day. Attendance is taken once, in the morning (the first check-in block's window), and everyone stays checked in as math turns into reading and writing. Secondary: each period loads its own roster and takes its own attendance.

End of the day

After Day ends (Setup → You), or an hour after your last block if that's later, the board says "School's out! See you tomorrow", the tablet rests, and hall passes close.

The ⚡ Quick tab shows only what's happening now, how many students are here (tap to see who, or tap a name to mark them here), how many are out (tap to see who and mark them back), pass requests, and anything that needs you. Everything else is on the full dashboard.

Tap ✏️ Choose what shows here to pick the tiles, and whether coming back to the app (after a minute away, like locking your phone) opens Quick View. These choices are per device, so your phone and computer can differ. Phones start on Quick View.

Needs you

Pass requests to approve and students who are over their pass time.

🗓️ Today strip

Today's blocks, with the live one highlighted. Tap a block to start it now; Back to the clock follows the schedule again. The live block's to-do list and your private notes sit underneath.

Attendance

For the live block. Students check in on the tablet, or tap Here / Absent in the roster yourself. Late check-ins show a Late tag with the time. Mark the rest absent asks first; Reopen check-in gives stragglers a few more minutes.

🙋 Help line

Instead of interrupting or waiting with a hand up, students tap ✋ I need help on the tablet and pick their name. They join a line and see their place ("You're number 2 for help"). Your phone and watch buzz ("✋ Maya needs help") with a Helped ✓ button right on the notification. The line also shows at the top of your Today and Quick tabs with how long each student has waited. Tap Helped ✓ after you've helped them. You can also tap Helped on the board if board touch is on. Add the ✋ Help line box to a board layout to show the line; without it, a small note shows in the board's corner. The line clears when the class changes.

🚪 Pass (in the roster)

Send a student out on a hall pass from your phone or computer. The board shows them out with the timer running. Your choice goes ahead even if the pass is busy or has a line. Tap Returned when they're back.

On the board

Quick timers (1–15 min), pause, +1 minute; the random picker (everyone gets a turn before repeats; skips absent students and students out on a pass); and the learning target showing now, with buttons to pin a subject's target.

Morning check-in

Lunch counts (tap Edit today's menu to change today's choices), and feelings. 🔒 Feelings are only ever shown to you, folded away until you tap, with a "check in with" list for students who picked Worried, Sad, or Mad.

Would you rather

Vote totals, Reveal (shows results on the board), and New question.

To-do, Groups, Jobs

Tick to-do items; make partners or groups from students who are here (keep-apart pairs are honored); rotate or shuffle classroom jobs.

Make a board for each part of a lesson, like slides: Bell ringer → Vocabulary → Video → Discussion → Independent work. Each board has a name, its own boxes, and optionally its own video.

Show it for…

A class period (Period 3), a subject or activity (Math, Reading, Morning Meeting: it matches any block whose name contains it), or General (only when you pick it). Boards for the same block play in the order of your list; use ↑ ↓ to reorder and Duplicate to start from a copy.

During class

When a block starts (after check-in), its first board comes up. On the Today or Quick tab, tap Next ▶ / ◀ Back, or tap any board's name. Automatic goes back to following the schedule. Blocks without boards use the template layouts below.

Videos

Save as many YouTube or Google Slides links as you like under 🎬 Videos & slides, then pick one for each board. The next board's video loads ahead of time, and a video pauses when you move to another board.

Besides your own boards, there's a layout for check-in time and one for each block template. Drag a box to move it, drag its corner to resize, ✕ to remove, and Add for more. Text in each box grows or shrinks to fit the space you give it. 👀 Preview the board opens a live copy of the board on your computer, no pairing needed.

🎬 Video / slides

A YouTube video (privacy-enhanced player) or Google Slides (shared "anyone with the link" or published).

✅ InstaCheck

Shows your InstaCheck display (join code, questions and results) from check.tirrelogston.com. Run the questions from the InstaCheck teacher dashboard; students answer on their own devices. Put your class code in Board tab → InstaCheck box to open straight to your class, or leave it blank and type the code on the board. Nice as an exit-ticket board.

📣 Reward Meter

Your noise meter. Tap Tap to start the meter in the box and allow the microphone on the board computer.

✏️ Whiteboard

Write on your iPad, tablet or phone and it shows in this box, so you can teach facing your class. Board tab → Whiteboard box → Open the pen on this device (on your tablet), or Show QR for my tablet and scan it. Worksheets, PDFs, templates and zoom all work. Keep the board code off the projector; New code disconnects old pens.

Write one target per subject (every subject in your schedules is listed). The board shows the target for whatever is on the schedule right now, so if Math moves to 1:00 today, its target moves with it. Subjects match by name, so keep names consistent ("Math" everywhere).

Day gone off-plan? Pin one: Board tab → What the board shows, or the subject buttons on the Today tab. Tap Follow schedule to go back. The all-day target shows whenever the current subject has none.

Morning questions

After checking in, students can be asked how they feel (big faces), what's for lunch, and today's Would You Rather. Turn each on or off.

Board look

Cozy classroom, Chalkboard, Ocean, or Calm (high contrast).

Light / dark

The board and tablet are set from the Board tab (Automatic follows each device's own setting). The teacher app has its own 🌓 button at the top; each phone or computer remembers its choice. Light/dark applies to the Cozy look.

Board touch

Lets anyone tap the timer, picker, to-do, and Reveal on the smartboard. Turn it off if needed.

Setup → 🧪 Practice day (or the button on the Today tab after school) swaps today's schedule for a quick pretend one that starts right away: check-in, Math, Lunch, a Quiz and Reading, about 8 minutes each, with a pretend class of 12. Your board, tablet and phone all follow along, so you can check students in on the tablet, send passes, and try your boards.

Your real classes, attendance and saved schedules aren't touched. Tap End practice to put today back; it also ends by itself at midnight.

You

Your display name, the board's welcome message, school day times, and when to alert you about unfinished attendance.

Today's schedule

Shows which saved schedule today is using. Switch today to another saved schedule, or edit today only. Tomorrow goes back to your weekly plan automatically.

Saved schedules and weekly plan

Make one for each kind of day (Regular day, Early release, Assembly). Choose which one Monday through Friday use.

🧱 Blocks

Open any block to set its template, roster, hall-pass rule, check-in minutes, students' to-do list and private notes. Pick Today only or a saved schedule at the top of the card.

Hall passes

How many at once, when to alert you, "Needs my OK" (you approve from your phone or watch), and "Private on board".

Classes

First names, one per line (last names become an initial). Class times switch the board and tablet automatically for middle school periods. Keep apart pairs ("Maya + Leo") are used when making groups and are only shown to you.

Pair a board or tablet

Scan its code with your phone's camera, or type the 6-character code. Check "Keep it paired for the school year" in your own classroom; leave it unchecked when subbing and it forgets everything at the end of the day.

Watch & phone alerts

Overdue passes, pass requests, and unfinished attendance, even with your phone locked. Galaxy Watch shows Approve and Returned buttons.

Teacher devices

Add more phones, or remove one.

Save to a file

An encrypted copy of your classroom, protected by your password. Nobody can open it without the password, including us.

Start a new day

Clears today's attendance, passes, answers, groups, and today-only schedule changes. Happens automatically at midnight.

Host device

Move the host to another device (it takes the data with it).

Delete

Deletes everything on this device and unpairs all devices.

• The board or tablet says "Waiting for your teacher's host device". Open ClassroomOS on your host computer and keep that tab open. It can be in the background; it keeps everything in sync.
• My phone isn't updating. Check the chip at the top says Remote · encrypted. If it says Host, your phone is running its own separate classroom: on your computer go to Devices → Add a teacher phone and scan the code. If it says host offline, open ClassroomOS on your computer.
• The board looks old after an update. Refresh the board and tablet pages once.
• No timer chime. Browsers block sound until someone taps the page. Tap the board once after opening it.
• The preview didn't open. Allow pop-ups for classroomos.tirrelogston.com.
• Reward Meter isn't listening. Tap Tap to start the meter in the box and allow the microphone.
• Whiteboard box is blank or not updating. Open the pen again from the Board tab on your tablet, and check both devices are online. If you made a new code, the tablet needs the new pen link.
• Unpair the tablet. Press and hold the small "Connected" label in its corner for 3 seconds.
• A video won't play. Some YouTube videos can't be embedded by their owners. Try another, or use Google Slides.
